I'm looking to get the new 20inch iMac with 2GB RAM, 2.16GHz Core2. I don't do 3D or games but do a lot of photo and video editing. Will the extra video RAM (from 128MB to 256MB) be useful? Thanks for your help.

Specify photo and video editing. What apps do you use?

Currently: iMovie, iDVD, QuickTime Pro, HandBrake, GraphicConverter and Photoshop Elements 3.0.

Would consider using FCP Express and Photoshop CS3 eventually but not now, probably next year if I get some money.

    Thanks for your help.

None of that makes particular use of the GPU, so 128 MB VRAM will do fine.

Good. If by chance you would consider Aperture at some point, then go for the 256 MB option. Otherwise, as Chucker said, in your applications list there is none that relies heavily on the GPU and 128 MB would be fine.

One other consideration, if you think at some point you'll want to go to a two display setup, then get the 256MG ideo RAM.
