When using Smart Folders in Mail, can one hide the 'smart' messages from the inbox?

Hi:

I'm testing out Apple Mail.. it's definitely got it's annoying glitches in that it insists you provide it with a smtp server (but I can overlook that), and that it does not create the trash and junk folders easily.. you have to jump through hoops including restarting the application before the folders show up. Really annoying.

Anyways, for the purpose of mail filtering, I know one can make a mailbox folder and it'll physically pull those messages out of the Inbox and put them into that folder.

Smart folders, leaves them in the inbox, but the messages will be visible in both the smart folder and the inbox.. Is there a secret technique to 'hide' messages from the inbox that went into the smart folder?

I'm also wondering regarding POP3 & webmail.. if one is retrieving messages and has 'leave on server' checked, but one deletes messages in the apple mail application, can it then automatically delete the messages off the server next time it connects, or does one have to also log in through the web interface and delete from there also?

Thanks!

The answer is yes to the smart folders question, by creating a 'smart mailbox' that excludes all the mailing lists you are subscribed to.

And the answer to the 2nd question is, there is no way to make gmail delete messages via pop3 even if you have 'delete when moved from inbox' selected. Which sucks!
