Can it decode 5.1 sound [dts/dolby]?

when used with soundsticks/pro speakers, what method is it using to decode the dvd's 5.1 to 2 channel audio?

there are no 3rd party dvd players for os 10.

(except vlc, but you can't call that a dvd player.)

Why do you say VLC isn't a DVD player?

It plays my DVD movies just fine.

I think you mean it isn't a "fully featured" DVD player, but it *is* a very good bare-bones DVD player.

Will it ever de-interlace? Lord of the Rings suffers because of this.

Yes, VLC has an option to de-interlace the video.

    Check the Controls menu.

Well then, I guess that makes it better in some respects than Apple DVD Player! I was wondering when Apple would implement this. I was thinking of the OS 9 one, IIRC the OS X player doesn't de-interlace either.

I've never used VLC (http://www.videolan.org/) or heard of it until now. Is it just all around better than Apple's player? This project looks pretty cool...

    I didn't say it isn't a DVD player. I said you can't call it a DVD player.

vlc doesn't play my fine as yours. they're all jerked... (I don't know what's the right word for it, but Apple's DVD Player plays them smooth, now what's the opposite?)

anyway, my specs are as follows:

    PowerMac G4 400 AGP

    1.1 GB RAM

    what are yours ?

    btw.

    vlc 0.4.4 just came out.

it fixes the incompatibility with QuickTime 6 (which I had installed).

Is there an alternate DVD player for OS 9? I keep getting "hardware not found" errors.

I tried vlc on my Powerbook G4/667 with 512 megs ram because I wanted to watch a movie on my laptop monitor while I did some really boring repetitive work on my second monitor. vlc would let me do this (something that Apples DVD player would not let me do. With apples the DVD seems to have to be with the screen with the menubar on it). Tried it but I was using Quark in Clasic (COME ON QUARK!!!) and the video would skip and then the audi would speed up trying to catch up. Oh well-it was free.
