Voice Manipulation

I have Soundtrack Pro and want to manipulate my voice for different characters. As far as I know Soundtrack allows me to change the pitch but it sounds like a smurf talking. Does anybody know of any tutorials, techniques or mac friendly software that can manipulate voice.

I have done a search but it seems that most applications are PC only.

You could use Audacity. It's a free, open source program, and does all kinds of manipulations.
