Bought an Apple iMac
Got an Apple iMac! Do you think the specifications are good enough?
20-inch
2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
128MB VRAM
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
250GB Serial ATA Drive
SuperDrive 8X (DVDR-DL/CD-RW)
NO MODEM
WL KYBD & MSE + MAC OS X-GBR
Country Kit-GBR
I'm worried about the 128 video ram, will the mac really suffer without 256? When would it start to suffer? What I'm trying to say is does the video ram support the other specifications? Will it slow the others down if they work at full capacity?
Below I've mentioned what I'm using the mac for.

Good enough for what? What are you using it for?
Anything really, iMovie, maybe Final Cut Pro/HD, Adobe Photoshop, surfing the Internet etc.
Do you do a lot of heavy editing or PhotoShop use? Is that your profession? If so, I would have gotten a Mac Pro, but for most things, you're going to be great for years. Really. It's an excellent machine. Always pack it with ram, and you're cool. I mean, I was able to rough-cut 200 commercials on a tiny 12" laptop; you can do wonders with this puppy.

No, amateur work really. So you don't think that 2GB of ram is too much? Or the 128MB of video ram is too small?

You can never have enough ram, but I think that extra 1GB (for the 3) gets expensive in proportion to what you get. 2GB is great for what you're doing. Wouldn't worry about the video ram too much (although some might disagree and may give some insights on this thread). I think you have a great machine and will have many, many happy years editing, photoshop-ing and basically having fun with it. And, when you want, you can get an extra monitor, and an external Blu-Ray when they come out, and cool other stuff... it will give Santa something to do for Xmases to come as well.
I would have gotten the 256 VRAM though, not for the video or photoshop per se, but because I think Leopard is going to shove even more stuff onto the GPU, and Core Image tries to cache everything into the VRAM. For only$75 it seems pretty cheap.

Well, it's kinda too late now, isn't it?
I canceled my order and I think I'll reorder it with the 256MB VRAM.
Well no, lol

Cool. Didn't know that was an option. Totally good going for it. Great computer to have. You'll have mucho fun.

For your intended use, 128 MB VRAM would not be a problem, but as lundy said, you are future-proof going with the 256 MB option. GPUs are used more and more by OS X these days, and soon by Linux and Windows (Vista). This is a general trend.
