need a film scanner

I am looking for a film scanner. I have a lot of 35mm negitives I need to scan.

I have a G5 dual 2.5Ghz, with 1 gig memory and running Mac OS 10.4.8.

I am looking to spend up to $1000.

Does the Nikon V or 5000 work good with Mac OS X???

Is the microtek scanners any good???

What is a good scanner to use??? Is there any new ones out there???
