iTunes 7.0.1 update problem

Good Morning. New to posting here although have read the forums for months about new products that sometimes never come to market!

Yesteray I updated to iTunes 7.0.1, Quicktime, and Security Update for Panther (10.3.9) using software update. The update seemed to take longer than normal (about 70mbs) but that might have been an ISP issue (South Africa). All went through and I optimized hard-drive and rebooted the iBook G4. My problem now is this....

I can not get the computer to obtain an IP address in Network Settings. My ISP uses dynamic IP addressing (don't ask, long story here in SA) so I get a new one everytime I log in. I am using DSL with an AE wireless which still works fine with my XP laptop. The iBook can connect to the network, just can't use the internet through it. I am using DHCP auto but can not get it to renew the lease on it to get a new address.

First thing I did was repair permissions, but that has not sorted it out. Now when I try to open internet connect, it just times out with the spinning thing and I have to force quit. Very annoyed with this happening and need to get it resolved since most of my work is done on the mac rather than the XP machine. Although software works fine that doesn't need to connect to a server or internet resource.

Please share your tips, help, etc. Would be greatly appreciated. ThanX.

    Hi

I am on cable and had a similar issue but under 10.4.8. What fixed things for me was I shutdown my mac , Airport Express (turned power off) , Cable modem (turned power off)

The turn everything back on starting with the modem, Airport Ex, and Mac all work normally again.

I hope this helps. I have a dynamic IP by choice at present but will be changing soon as it is causing problems from time to time.

did that since I power down the airport every night to save us from broadcasting waves in our sleep (and electricity)! Modem is plugged into same power cord. Seems to just not get a IP address. And renewing the lease is doing nothing when I click on that button. Can I software restore just internet connect? Wouldn't really want to resore the entire os over this issue.

I'm wondering why you are using Internet Connect. Setting the Network pane to DHCP (if that is in fact what your DSL provider uses) and also enabling PPPoE if that is how your ISP works should do it.

Connect the computer directly to the DSL modem, with the AE out of the picture.

And what do you mean by "optimized the hard drive"?

DHCP is what the ISP uses and what I have used the entire time with them. I have PPPoE enabled as well, it just doesn't pick up an IP address. I have tried to connect to the ethernet cable directly, and the same thing occurs. No recognition at all.

Using Internet Connect essentially because I am trying everything to get it to catch an IP address.

Optimized the hard drive = after the software update it runs through a process to consolidate or do something with all the files on the hard drive. It was just an automatic thing. I did delete a couple of old entry's of wireless passwords from a year or two ago in the keychain. But I was careful to only clear old ones and not current accounts. Might this have something to do with it? When I open keychain and click on show password, it doesn't show anything and sometimes times out on me. Strange happenings here.
