I have just been fortunate enough to get a new mac pro, something i didn't even realise it had was dual ethernet.

I am wondering what the advantages of two ethernet ports is and what you guys are using the second one for (if indeed you are using it at all)

thanks

j.

I don't have a dualE system but there are at least two uses often mentioned, one is to connect to other computers on the network, and another to connect to the storage area network (SAN) for file storage. Another use is to "team" the two together to get one really fast connection. There are more esoteric uses, such as using the computer as a network router, but for most people, a $50 piece of hardware would be better suited for that task.

You could use your Mac as a NAT (aka "Internet sharing").
