Printer's IP

I have a printer (HP 2420) and I want to install it on a 12" powerbook with Tiger. The printer is on our LAN plugged in our switch.



I want to install this printer on IP Printer protocol. In order to do this, i need to find out her IP. How can I do this?

    You should be able to go into your router and see the IP address of all the connected devices. For example, with my D-Link DI-524, I use their web interface to manage the router. From that interface, there's a section where I can look at - and assign - IP addresses. In the case of a printer, I would suggest that you use the router's web management interface to permanently assign a fixed IP address to the printer.



    I put my color laser printer on my home network this way (fixed IP address). I then installed the drivers on my iMac and added the new IP printer using the Printer System Preferences. Works very nicely with all the machines on the home network.

    Alternately, most printers have a 'Print Configuration' setting available, which will print out a sheet with all the info on it. This is usually a lot faster, and available in situations where you don't have access to the router, say, in an office network setting where you're not an admin.
