Automator help needed.

I created an Automator action (saved as a Finder plug-in) that gets selected Finder items, and after I enter a name, renames them sequentially. It works on a disk image that is visible (ie name does not start with a "."), but not one that is invisible which is the problem I am having. Has anyone else run into this problem and found a way around it?
