Are you waiting on some universal binary updates in 8 months or so? If so, the programs on a MBP under Rosetta will be faster than an 867 G4. Also, since you plan to run Windows, you have far more and better options on the MBP - it'll run Windows at full speed. If I were you I'd try and make the switch as quickly as possible. You don't even need to go for the MBP. The Macbook is faster than your powerbook by a long way. Pretty much the only advantage the MBP has is the GPU, otherwise they perform about the same.
but the reason for the 8 month wait is purely financial.....just need to have some cash come in....in the end, I realize, I need the Mac B Pro, as i use finalcut Pro.
But in the mean time I want to see if its possible to run Windows XP on Virtual Pc Version 6 with my current system, befor I buy Windows XP and find out its a waste
....any thoughts
thanks
Thanks,

If it's just Final Cut Pro, the Macbook is fine. FCP doesn't use the GPU same as Shake, which I run on an Intel Mini. Apart from the GPU, the MB and MBP are nearly the same performance-wise. The MBP will have a slight edge now with Core 2 Duo but still not much to warrant nearly double the price.
Of course you get firewire 800 on the MBP now but most devices are fw 400.
In a way I would still prefer the MBP for a number of reasons, mainly styling and durability as well as the choice of a matte screen but non-GPU performance wouldn't be a concern.
On the subject of buying XP, I'd probably buy it if you can get it cheap enough because you will likely want to use it with your MBP anyway. A service pack 2 XP disc can be used with Bootcamp and Parallels. However, I don't think you'll be overly impressed with the performance on your G4. I used it on a 1.2GHz G4 with 1GB Ram and I stuck with Windows 98 because XP was too slow.
