Whatcha Listening To... Returns

What's in your ears or on your speakers these days?

I'm still stuck on mt old stalwarts Muse (Black Holes and Revelations) and Placebo (Meds), but there are a few more things on rotation on the stereo and iPod...

New releases by The Killers (Sam's Town) and Kasabian (Empire) haven't grown on me yet.

But I've immediately taken a liking to The Whitest Boy Alive (Dreams -ITS Link). This is the new trio formed by a King of Convenience, and it's the familiar vocal over catchy acoustic guitar and bass... just like KOC. But there's a little more emphasis on minimalist long Belle and Sebastianesque instrumental passages than KOC which is a bit more about the vocals vs the two guitars. Anyway it's great stuff!

I can always listen to Guster, Franz Ferdinand, The Beatles, Boy Kill Boy, Arctic Monkeys, The Zutons, and Panic! at the Disco. I also enjoy The Killers, especially their new album. Sam's Town is what I've been listening to a lot lately.

Yeah, "Burning" off that album is great.

Definitely something to thump my foot to. I'm really trending away from the quiet folk rock type music (although The Decembrists new one is great, I like Jose Gonzalez and Ryan Adams's latest record.)

But I really really can't get enough of Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, and Swan Lake-- all bands involving Wolf Parade members. Awesome stuff.

Hey tonton. . . is BHaR (or whatever the cool kids call it) any good? All I've been told is that it's "different."

the Rapture ( not the heavy metal band of similar name: Rapture )

    The Editors

    Rouge Traders

and the new Sloan is surprisingly great.

    flick.

Yes, yes, yes. Wolf Parade is hugely underrated, Spencer Krug's voice is like Conner Oberst's voice on steroids. Big fan.

Yeah but they add layers of intricate songcraft that I feel surpass MBV.

Objects of my Affection, Paris 2004, and Amsterdam I would heavily recommend.

Yes indeed, the only bad part is that it stays in your head for days.

The Lilly Allen cd has been in pretty constant rotations around these parts. Makes me want to invite people over and have a dance party.

I really dig the whole record. Not Big especially kills though. I've also been spinning the Butch Walker and The Let's Go Out Tonights record a lot. I really dig the song Beth Amphetamine.

"Phantom Limb," the first single off the latest album from The Shins is just intoxicating.

I didn't like it at first but it grew on me!

I don't think so! But she's also got serious talent in my opinion. Great phrasing and lyrics.
