At first I cringed. "Alicia Keys? Her voice is terrible!" But then her point about the rawness of her voice meshing well with the rawness of the White Stripes's sound actually makes sense. White will produce and play drums.

I can't really say I am an Alicia Keys fan, but to describe her voice as terrible?

Been obsessed with the first four songs on an Of Montreal Record. They totally won me over with this couplet, "On our trip to England I noticed something obscene

People still actually give a shit about the Queen"

Also saw the Subways last Friday who put on a great show. First time I'd jumped around in a pit in.....well let's just say too long.

Well, her voice is nice for the limited range she has. I really enjoy Fallin', You Don't Know My Name, A Woman's Worth, and If I Ain't Got You. But, my god, listen to her latest big hit "No One." Great song, but she's overextending her range big time there. It's painful to my ears.

Rogue Wave's cover of Buddy Holly's "Everyday."

    Fantastic!

The White Stripes are by far the best band of the past ten years or so.

I also kinda like Gnarles Barkley.

I'm still listening to "As" by Stevie Wonder.

In addition to Stevie Wonder's version from Songs in the Key of Life, i've downloaded 21 other recordings of the song from the iTunes Store.

I need a new hit song. I have a total of nearly 1000 play counts on As, across all the different versions.

Can anyone suggest a new song that I might like as much?

Tokyo -- Bruce Cockburn -- Humans

They're getting prepared to haul a car out of the river

Noise and smoke and concrete seem to be going on forever

Grinding gears and drivers getting high on exhaust

I'm thinking about the water down below and what got lost

Pachinko jingle and space torpedo beams

Comic book violence and escaping steam

Grey suited business men pissing against the wall --

Cut to crumbling guardrail, slow motions car fall

Oh Tokyo -- I never can sleep in your arms

Mind keeps on ringing like a fire alarm

Me and all these other dice bouncing around in the cup

Did you have to show me that accident scene

Didn't I get enough shaking up?

    Still I'm gonna miss you...

Dragon of good fortune struggles with trickster fox

Energy and patience and the power of the buck

    Tonight I'm flying headlong

To meet the dark red edge of dawn

I know somebody will be crying

    And somebody will be gone

Oh Tokyo -- I never can sleep in your arms

Mind keeps on ringing like a fire alarm

Me and all these other dice bouncing around in the cup

Did you have to show me that accident scene

Didn't I get enough shaking up?

    Still I'm gonna miss you...

Elton John, Madman Across the Water.

For ages I've contended that Tumbleweed Connection was the greatest Elton John album (and, indeed, one of the best albums of the 1970s), but boy howdy, this one is kicking my ass. I still don't think it's as good as TC, but holy crap, it's a close second.
