IE7.0 is not good
I have been travelling for the past couple of weeks and I have been using IE7.0 a lot and Firefox 2.0 as well. The iMac is sitting pretty at home. So anyway, here is the deal with IE7.0
1. No java support
2. No way to repair the installation. At least no straightforward way I could find.
3. Slow and a resource hog when compared to Firefox.
If your copy of IE7 becomes unusable (my copy would crash when I opened a link in a background tab, it happened yesterday after 2-3 weeks of regular browsing with Roboform, Google and Yahoo toolbars), disabling add-ons doesn't help everytime. You need to into internet options->advanced tab and click on the new "Reset" button. There is no way to go into "add/remove programs" to "Repair the installation". Heaven forbid if a DLL gets corrupt. I guess I have to download and retain a copy of the setup program for those situations. I stumbled upon the "Reset" button fix by trial and error.
In short, Firefox 2.0 >> IE7.0. Microsoft has lost the ability to write quality products. Given the fact that you can't copy an ISO image to your HDD unless you have VISTA business or ultimate editions, I think they are loosing touch with consumer expectations as well.
Now to save up for the Macbook... /sigh

No Java support right out of the (virtual) box wouldn't surprise me too much. But this leads me to wonder...
If you re-install Java, do Java applets start working again?
Do we need to wait for Sun to update their Java installers to handle IE7?
Has Microsoft simply decided "No more Java!"?
