Way to force firmware update?
I have a 1.8 Ghz Macbook Pro, currently with the following firmware revs:
Boot ROM VersiontMBP11.0044.B02
SMC Versiont1.2f10
I need to update my Boot ROM to MBP11.0055.B03 to install Boot Camp. So I downloaded the firmware updater from:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...update101.html
When I run the installer, I get an alert: "This computer does not need this update."
Say what? The page I downloaded it from specifically said it updated to MBP11.0055.B03, and the file date of the download pkg (4/7/06) seems close enough to the date on the download page (4/17/06). Fwiw, I get the same msg when I download the updater from:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21239
Questions then:
-- Any ideas why the updater won't run? Because my SMC is at 1.2f10? (latest)
-- Is there a way to force the firmware update?
TIA,
chris

No attempt to reboot would work- safe boot, single user, System DVD, Drive from an identical G5, etc.
Booted Open Firmware OK and basic tests were OK. Booted from the Apple Hardware test disk and passed all tests...
Every from time to time when restarting it does the firmware load sound instead of the normal boot sound. My questions are:
1. Could the firmware be corrupt? (the boot process does begin, but hangs after starting)
2. Is there anyway to force a firmware update? (Even if I could start it, I can't run the updater, because the firmware is already up to date)
Thanks in advance,
dc
