My Macbook won't turn on

I jut got it a few days ago. I left it plugged in but turned off for the first time last night. This morning it won't turn on with the power cord either attached or not. When attached the power cord shows the little green light and the white light in the front is on. But nothing happens when I press the power button.

OK I figured it out, I had to reset the power management.

But why did I have to do this and will it be a common thing?

I wouldn't worry about it. I've had that happen. It's a computer...shit happens. Make sure all your software is up to date and if it happens again call Apple.
