Suprising(or not so suprising) is Logic X move to only Audio Units. Emagic will provide a program for developers of VST plugins to convert their plugins to Audio Unit format quite easily(so they say).

It's downloadable right now!

Yikes, wow. If I had any idea this was coming I would'a gone out to Guitar Center this weekend and purchased Logic 5 so I could upgrade it online... Oh well, my audio interface is over at a friend's house right now anyway. But I'll be buying soon. This is great news!

Yeah you might want to do that. Here's a quote from an early upgrader.

[quote] As posted by ppgwave on the Logic Forums:

"Yep - VST [plugin technology] is dead [in Logic for OS X] - long live Audio Units. Apparently there's a very "easy" conversion from Carbonized VST to Audio Units available from Emapple.

BTW - OSX Logic5 ROCKS. I just loaded a song with 24 EXS instances, 2 ES2, and 2 ES1, that used to get to around 80% on my Dual800, and now it's maxing at 40% on ONE cpu. The promised efficiencies on Dual CPUs are for REAL!"

I have no complaints for getting the same work done in 60% the previous time. Maybe this will end the "Track Wars" that always crop up when comparing platforms.

I'm still concerned about OSX audio device drivers. MOTU finally came out with a beta driver for my 828 interface and it doesn't work well at all. I can use Live for OSX using my iBook's built-in audio port just fine, but when I try to use the 828 and the new driver, I get lots of pops & clicks & dropouts. So now I'm back to using Live in OS9, which I don't like because I simply don't like working in OS9 any more.

Does anybody have any word of audio drivers for OSX that actually work, for ANY device?

Emagic's drivers for their emi2|6 are included in the Logic OSX installer.

RME drivers for HDSP Multiface available (alpha). I installed them last weekend and they worked fine with OSX/ iTunes. I will try them with Logic OS X this evening...

I know a guy that runs 10.2 with an EMI2/6 and gets these same pops clicks and noise. I know alot of USB Audio users are affected but there seems to be no rhyme or reason why some users get clean audio and others get noise. Zero has the same hardware and he's fine. I can't figure it out.

I could see it being a USB issue (the fact that hi-res digital audio comes close to maxing out USB's available bandwidth) if my firewire interface didn't do the same thing. Weird.

I've thought about putting my MOTU 2408 mark II into one of my G4s to see if it has the same problem.... but wait, MOTU still hasn't done an OSX driver for it!

I don't think there's going to be a OSX upgrade right away for the "silver" version of Logic included in the Big Box, though.

Logic Audio Platinum 5.3 for os 9 and win will be next. Afterwards an "all platform"-update to LA Gold 5.3 and LA (formerly known as LA Silver" 5.3 even later.

What about MicroLogic? Will we see a free "iMusic" application soon?

Here's a full review of OSX Logic (no mention of audio interface driver problems, even with the MOTU 828)
