External Hard drive

I have a sea gate hard drive and i've been backing up my pc into it. Now that i have a Macbook, i want to be able to backup everything from my macbook into my hard drive. Is this possible even when i have stuff saved in my HD?

    What format is it in ?



    - If its in FAT32 - yes, read and write

    - If its NTFS - it will read, but cannot write
