Future Ipod idea
I just thought of a pretty sweet idea if Apple can ever figure out a solution for getting satisfactory battery life out of an Ipod with Wifi on. Offer a service so that you could listen to online radio stations/ satellite radio stations if in range of a hotspot. I think this could really be another level for the Ipod to really set itself ahead of the "competition".
XM and sirus alrealy allow their subscribers to access the stations over the internet with a username. If apple could figure out a way to integrate this into the ipod I think there would be tremendous interest as wifi hotspots become more common.
Internet radio stations are also becoming more and more common and I think that if there was a service for searching or setting in itunes a set of radio stations to browse that people would really like something like this.
Adding to this is the fact that Apple doesnt make THAT much off ITMS purchases and they basically use it as a method of locking people into the ipod thru there DRM and force them to buy ipods. If they were still selling ipods even though people wern't buying the songs it shouldn't affect there profits that much. Plus they could charge a premium for this device that would virtually offset any loss.
Anybody have any thoughts on this?? Just trying to think of something to push envelope a bit.
