What now?

Ok. so with the release of the Zune, what now for Ipod. Obviously that Zune is not going to be the "Ipod killer", but it does have some features that are nice, and for first time buyers it looks like the new Zune could be the choice. So what I want to know is how long do you guys think that it will take for Apple to jump on the train and start upgrading. Any word about when they will get WiFi(or hopefully bluetooth), and when will they start making other such advances. Competition is good for the market, it causes advancement which i think the mp3 market can really use.

The Zune's "nice" features are not that nice. WiFi on the Zune is very limited and is not a feature most people really understand. You cannot share more than 3 plays or 3 days to any person. You cannot communicate with any other person with something like MSN etc.. so what good is it really? The search feature that they talked up has already been included on the iPod 5.5G and the larger screen size? Give me a break! It has a larger screen but a lower resolution so picture quality is sacrificed. Background pics? Ok, iPods don't have that one but who really wants to pay that much simply for the ability to have a background pic?

The Zune comes in a (god-awful) brown colour (now also in white and black), it is much thicker than the iPod and uses a proprietary music download system just like iTunes but with fewer songs. Just days after Zune's release and people are complaining about the service and all the bugs associated with it. No thanks! Yet, there will always be gullible people out there that think the Zune is better than the iPod and that it's features are better.

Apple's answer will soon become apparent. There ar tons of threads dealing with what that answer will be so I won't go into it here. I will say though, that Apple's answer will show Microsoft exactly how to design and market a new device.
