A lot of people swear by Logitech. They have a huge selection.

    Others like the Microsoft mice.

Myself, I use a 4-button wired optical Logitech.

I still think that the Microsoft Intellimouse Optical is the best mouse ever created.

    Either will do.

What will not do is Apple's Mighty mouse.

Logitech MX310 has served me very well for years and is priced reasonably. Has five buttons and scroll. I take it you are not left handed, or you'd have mentioned it, but in any case the 310 is symmetric. And wired.

I have that one too and it's the best out of all the mice I've used. The only negative thing is that I feel it is too tall and it hurts my hand when it's stretched all the time. I bought a Microsoft notebook mouse and it's not painful to use but the middle mouse button sucks. It's so stiff to click and it won't register sometimes. If they put the mouse wheel from the larger Intellimouse on the notebook one, it would be ideal.

Actually. the Mighty Mouse WILL do.

I love mine. The side buttons are PERFECT for expose, and it comes with three other buttons, left, right and center. Which can be programed as anything. For instance left = left, right = right, center = dashboard. Or you can leave center as the tertiary click (i.e. when you click on links, it opens in a new tab).

Thanks insiders. I was out to hunt the mice. Got cross a 310. The shelf price is 29.88 but the computer (at checkout) list is 39.99... left empty handed. Will out hunt again with my lucky charm next time ;-) Thanks a million for all your help. It is very informative.

    Best regards,

ps I will stay away of wireless for the moment. try to stay simple and stupid... (least complication the better) and cheap...
