Slow to the party, Apple. Really slow!
Seems like everyone gets more product out the door than Apple, even though most of what does finally make it through the door is good stuff.
Makes one wonder what Apple could have done with a product like this.
HP iPAQ rx5915 Travel Companion
Sure it's a Swiss Army knife of functions, but it has a number of things I've been itching for Apple to include in an improved/extended iPod, such as GPS.
Will they ever put a fire under their new product release cycle?!

I think Apple has shown that a large feature list isn't everything. If that were the criteria for success Creative would be winning.
Vinea
GPS
iLife integration
Contacts/Calendar
Sheesh.
Point out a product that sells more than Apple's product or makes more money for its company that Apple's product.
One product cannot do everything well. Apple has targeted the iPod for media playback and is selling them as fast as they can make them.
Why would Apple use some obscure product that few people know exists as an example of what the iPod should do.
iLife integration
Contacts/Calendar
I'm not sure what you are asking for specifically but any media created in iLife can be played on the iPod. Contacts and Calendar can be synced on the iPod.
I don't always agree with what Apple creates. I don't think iTunes will be a better source of entertainment vs a DVD and a cable/satellite subscription.
I dont' think an iPod with some nods towards organizational tools will compete with a product specifically designed to handle such tasks.
We'll see though I remain open and hopeful.
Probably because they are cool and point to the future.
Maybe, maybe not. Apple has plenty of past failures that prove to be the first to do something isn't always the best.

I would not say you can only use one or the other. They perform somewhat different tasks. I use iTunes and cable television
iTunes primary function is not really to provide entertainment the way a television does. Its more a storage and management user interface for media files. Front Row and iTV are more the front end presentation.
Cable/Satallite have the advantage of providing 500 channels of various entertainment and news with little effort from the viewer. While with iTunes you have to manually input all of the media.
On the other hand with iTunes you are able to freely store any media you choose and watch it as many times as you like.
