Problems with charging my G4 Powerbook

Could be the cable, although we've now tried two. If you "wiggle" it, it sometimes does the trick - and then again it sometimes doesn't! The hinge mechanism seems rough - I wondered if this is related? I've heard that G4 hinge problems are not uncommon. I have no idea how to go about getting it fixed, where to take it, where to not get ripped off. Any help would be much appreciated. Mand'

I had that problem with my powerbook too. I was so glad they introduced magsafe. I found that twisting the plug when it was connected sometimes worked. I've had other devices that did this and I think I fixed them by squeezing the end of the plug. I didn't want to try that with the powerbook plug and since you've tried another one and it does the same, it looks like it's the machine at fault. Local resellers can sometimes do repairs but I don't know about repairs like this. It may need a new logic board. I remember getting a new logic board in my ibook once and all the ports were much tighter.

If you find that it would need a logic board and it's too expensive, you might still get enough if you sell it for parts. Macbooks are much faster anyway and for the price of a logic board, you might be able to get get one of them.
