My purchase - what do you guys think?

Well after realizing that I couldn't get as much as I wished for my current Windows laptop (It's very nice, but it depreciated rather quickly in little over a year), I took the plunge and bought an Apple Powerbook off ebay. It was kind of spontaneous actually. I was planning on purchasing a new MacBook, but I couldn't help picking this up, especially since it's a PowerBook - I prefer the Titanium case myself.

Here are the specs:

1.67 ghz PowerPc processor

2 gigs pc4200 ram

120 gb 5400 rpm 8mb cache Toshiba HD

Region Free DVD+/-RW Dual Layer (Pioneer)

OS X Tiger (10.4.7)

It came bundled with a ton of software, including iWork '06, iLife '06, Office for Mac, Final Cut Studio HD, Adobe Creative Suite 2, Macromedia Studio 8, Swifd 3D 4.5 & Xpress 1.00, Stuffit Delux 10, Toast Titanium 7, Logic Express 7.

He also included a mighty mouse and InCase carry case.

I paid $455.37 for it all too - was that a good deal? It's supposed to be in mint condition. I know it doesn't have the new Intel chips, but I don't see anything wrong with the old PowerPC chip - doesn't it get longer battery life than the Intels? It just seemed like too good of a deal to pass up on.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it'll come and work great!

So...what do you guys think?

I got it off ebay. I'm hoping everything turns out ok - the seller had a whole variety of apple computers for sale, and a pretty decent user rating too. Hopefully it turns out alright for me - I've never had a Mac before and am very excited.

Ebay just sent me an e-mail telling me that the listing has been canceled and that the individual is being investigated. Looks like he wash't legit. I'm glad that I never went through with the transaction, so I'm not out $500.

You actually did believe that someone could sell you a Mac with all that software for less than $500???

    That's pretty naive.

The software alone is worth 4 times as much, at least.

That's gar's point. All the software that's "bundled" with it is most definitely pirated.

Naive huh? Well, that's saying it a bit bluntly. I unfortunately got duped, and yes I should have known better. At least I didn't pay the money for it, which is the good part.

Looks like I'm back to finding another mac.

The 17" PowerBooks still went for $1000 or so last I checked, and that was with just the basic software, without all that extra pro software. That pro software is more than likely just pirated software. Unless maybe it has the original manuals, boxes or discs.

If you just like to have a big screen and don't need much power, then that's the way to go. The battery life isn't much different though.
