going to switch, how to configure imac...

For the past 6 months ive thinking about switching, and now i've decided to get an iMac when Leopard comes out. I just dont know how to customize all the hardware. I would like it to be as cheap as possible, but also be able to edit videos, music, and pictures and watch/listen/view them all without glitching, hiccuping, freezing, etc. Im a sophmore in high school, and i plan to get a MacBook after i graduate, so i dont need this to last me forever.

I would just like suggestions from people, that already have a mac, of how to customize the iMac to do what i want it to do, yet still be cheap.

Thanks.

Make sure it has at least 1GB of RAM.

Whoops, I take that back. The low-end $999 model still only has 512.
