Watch out for OS X safe mode losing your settings
Because I was testing something with font cache, I noticed after I booted back from OS X safe mode, that my system preferences for things like display brightness were just 'gone' on my MacBook.
To fix it I had to reset my SMS and did the PRAM for good measure.
So if you use safe mode, don't forget to reset the SMS afterwards.
