Powerbook Battery Problem

I have a 12" 1Ghz G4 Powerbook. My problem is that it is somehow misreading the battery life. My battery lasts for about 10 minutes and the system goes to sleep. I recently bought a battery that I know works fine, but it does the same thing. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried resetting the PMU?

Yes, but unfortunatly I have one of the models that doesn't give you a confirmation "beep" or anything to let you know it actually worked.

Presumably you've tried a few times to make sure?

    What about re-setting the PRAM/NVRAM?

If that still doesn't solve the problem, try this (it'll take a while, so you can only do it if you can live without the machine for about 48 hours):

    1.) Close all open applications

2.) Leave the machine unplugged until it goes to sleep

3.) Leave the machine unplugged until the battery is totally depleted so that the machine powers off.

4.) Plug the machine in and leave for 12 hours

    5.) Boot
