Since installing the latest security release last week, I have noticed a signifigantly increased boot time. I also sporadically get a mesage that the disk I have inserted has a format unrecognized by the system. I have tried running disk repair and Macjanitor to no avail. Any ideas ?

Check the "Startup Disk" in System Preferences and make sure that you have the macintosh hd set as boot volume.

Do you boot your Mac everyday? Or has it just been the one time since the security update? My MacBook always boots slower the one time after an update, but I only reboot about once a week. I dunno. Maybe check your disk space.

It's a mystery. To be honest I think it's just an affect of applying updates?some seem to make OS X boot faster and some make it slower. I don't know if the amount of fonts you have on your system still affects how quickly OS X boots?wasn't this an issue with OS 9?

Boot up in verbose mode by holding command-v and see where it's spending most of its time.
