It's a little old, but Quake III isn't bad. Try the Urban Terror mod for some wicked realistic fun.
Of course, there's also Quake and Quake II and I think there's a multiplayer Doom.

i must say, i'm quite addicted to the urbanterror mod. until recently that's all the quake that i've been playing. i haven't played unreal tourney in a while. don't know why, the game is a blast to play. seem to recall it being kind of buggy with osX. is this (still) the case?

UT Preview 3 for OS X works well enough for me. Smoke trails behind rockets look funky once in awhile but that's the only problem I've had. I've been playing the Marathon Mod a lot recently... if you're a Marathon fan you have got to try it...
My goodness gracious!!!! I tried that and its sooo much faster than UT in OS 9, and multiplayer/net play works . . . . its never done that properly for me . . . . yeay!!!!
I have the boxed version of the game for OS9 which is installed on an external FireWire drive which plays in Classic (just about) with jerky framerates and low detail levels.
I have just downloaded the Q3A 1.3 patch which was a Vise installer that put what seemed to be a new version of the game in my OSX Applications folder. There are two application icons in the new folder: a Classic version of the game "MacQuake3" (I get an error message: "Couldn't load default.cfg" when attempting to open that app) and an OSX version of the game "Quake3" with a generic Application icon. I get the same error message "Couldn't load default.cfg" when trying to open the OSX version of the game.
I have the 1.31 beta 4 patch waiting in the wings which is just two folders (baseq3 and missionpack) and two applications both called Quake3 which appear to be OSX and Classic versions. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with these files and folders... there is no read me! Do I overwrite the other files or what???
So, basically: what am I doing wrong? What do I need to do to get Quake3 running in OSX? Do I need to reinstall the original boxed version?
Any help greatly received, but talk to me like I'm a simple child: I can design you a funky website, but can scarcely work the video recorder. That's the level of technical competence you're dealing with!!
i am curious as to why i can not get quake3 under x to play online or even on a lan? i've tried making sure the ports are open under my firewall, yet it always tells me that there are no servers available. even if i specify a server it just sits counting and waiting. i know i could switch into 9, but i get much better performance in x (go figure). any suggestions?
-as for how to geet quake3 going under x take a look at the forums at cubeowner.com, there is a good explanation given there.

Feels like a much better port, too. Does anyone know when UT2003 is coming for the Mac? They haven't even released a demo yet.

You hate objective team play?
What is wrong with objective team play, the medics, leutenants, engineers, and soldiers make it fun!
mine keeps crashing on startup
