no airport hardware found

I've been using my intel 24" imac since their release date, and I'm loving it, or i was until today. I got home from work, fired up the computer, and I wasn't connected to the internet. (I connect wirelessly) I went tothe network prefs and it said "no airport hardware found" I tried running the hardware diagnostics thing from the mac disc, but that didn't work either. it found no issues. Anotehr thing I tried was holding apple +option + P +M but that didn't help either. Still no airport. Could this be a hardware issue?

I'm at a loss and started burning my photos to a dvd becuase I fear I'm going to have to totally reload this bad boy to fix it. I've found a few other people online with the same issue, but I can't find a solution from any of them. I'mtyping this up on my windows laptop which hasn't been fired up in a few months since I got the imac, but i needed to find a solution to this problem.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Does your iMac have a wireless networking card installed?

Are you using an Airport base station? Have you tried powering it down, pulling the DC plug from unit, waiting 5 minutes, and trying again? Actually, try that whether it's an Airport or not.

    *sigh*

With the Core 2 Duo Hardware, Apple felt the need to change some things around. My Airport Express throws me off one or more times a day, likely due to compatibility Issues with my Airport Extreme.

All of the Intel iMacs contain a wireless card.

Did you download the newly released Airport update from Software Update?

Which is why all should install the latest Airport update, explicitly billed as enhancing compatibility with C2D 'books.

    Available in software update now!

I hear he blacked out upstate New York once, in a fit of pique. I don't think people realize the broad discretionary powers given to internet discussion board moderators.

I am wondering if the wireless card is setted properly and the aerial connected correctly also as these factors can also cause these types of issues.

Also does the wireless card show up when you use the system profiler?

Make a new User account, call it test, no password. Reboot, log in as test and see if the card shows up.

card didn't move. tried another user. it's not a airport base station, but my windows machines were all hooked to the network fine. I powered in bootcamp and windows couldn't find the airport card either. after a dozen reboots back and forth in windows/osx, I actuall powered it completely down. brought it back up, and everythig is fine. so weird.

    thanks everyone for your help.

Exact same problem occured today after returning home from the office. Waked up my MBP from sleep mode and had no internet or airport/wi-fi detections. Direct connection by ethernet cable still worked though. Your idea to do a complete shutdown, and then a power-up solved the problem! Thanks for the help.

I suggest you have a look at antivirus installed. If you have virex or Norton, for gods sake get rid of it b4 it destroys all your files. I have had this happen twice b4 I discovered what was causing problems, and both times it cleared my drive completely.

Also, download Onyx, free software for verifying and repairing disc permissions, you mmay find that regular maintainence optimises your system and improves things heaps8)
