I went to the OpenOffice site to try to download the last version of OpenOffice when I came across a pleasant surprise:

---------

Currently there is no public pre-release version of the Aqua build. This is due to the fact that there are some major bugs that make it difficult to run for end user. These bugs are currently being resolved. Please check back on this page and on the download pages in the next 1-3 months, when we should have a pre-release alpha available.

---------

Given that NeoOffice is going absolutely nowhere, this is fantastic news.

Has anybody else heard anything about this?

    Yes, they are.

Still, it looks like this project is in the incubation stage. Judging from the blogs that I've read, like this one:

There's still much work to be done. It looks like they're still trying to learn XCode.

Good news but they managed to take a screenshot during the loading bar:

That suggests they haven't optimized that part up much.

I'm actually loving Pages right now so this will soley be for converting Word format documents. I tried doing a simple layout in NeoOffice and postioning images was a pain.

    This sounds about right.

They've ignored the Mac for years, letting Microsoft rule unchallenged in corporate offices because their suite wasn't cross platform.

But now that iWork will be almost complete at MWSF, they join the party so they can get crushed.

Really makes you wonder how many Corel, Lotus and WordPerfect Office strategists are working on this.
