$10,000 notMac Challenge

Inspired by the XP on Mac prize, someone has put together a similar challenge to create an open source .mac replacement: http://www.notmacchallenge.com/. He's going to match the first $10,000 that people contribute. I don't know when it started, but the prize is already over $4,000.

    Do they realize that it costs a few million to build a remotely decent datacenter, including hundreds of thousands a month in power and internet connectivity?

    I think he just wants the software, not the infrastructure.

    I think that under the rules, it would be possible to use hosting space somewhere else, so long as that was available freely. That's my understanding anyway.
