I'm using the clear shield (doesn't cover the base nor top of the 80GB). It's fine, but makes the iPod look scratched already.
Then I put my iPOD in a clear see-through case. I was travelling loose around the world last year with this - it's saved my iPOD from getting knocked.
The problem with it is, it doesn't accept non-iPOD earphones i.e. a 3.5mm right angle jack won't go in. You need to remove the black or purple frameline from the casing to enable the headphones then to fit in.
The other problem with it is, I can't put it on the Altec Lansing iMotion speaker port without taking the casing off.
It's a fantastic way to protect the iPOD, but really. My iPOD now looks the size of a cassette player's walkman. Strange how things come around....
The leatherette cases are fine too - they may be better for fitting other headphones.
