Help! New battery quickly discharges too.

I bought a 2nd gen mini for my daughter over ebay. The battery discharged quickly so I bought a new battery and it discharged overnight too. I returned that battery and got a replacement... it discharged too. Thus, not the battery. I can't return the ipod. I've updated software and wiped it clean with resets several times. Any suggestions? Anyone see this before. My daughter is bumbed and I just can't afford to toss it out and buy a new one. Ebay%^&*(!
