System pretty screwed up

First let me give you some basic info. Dual G5 Mac with IBM chip; 1 gig of memory; showed no problems before hand. Have ran utility disc, can't boot with apple care disk. Had 2 HDs, secondary hard drive can be seen in disc utility, primary can not. Have switched interfaces and still same problem. When booting Mac comes to grey screen with ICON of question mark and then switches to Finder ICON. Any suggestions? I am going to try and borrow someone's Mac to do the target drive feature, but as a last resort.
