search is down, sorry if this has been answered already.

I've noticed that Expander 7.0 wont expand certain files, like the Starcraft update I just downloaded. This is kinda pissing me off, especially since Aladddin doesn't have the older version on their site, and I really want to play Starcraft on OS X.

I know. It's utterly PATHETIC. Several .bin files I have downloaded refuse to do anything in the Expander app. No error, nothing!!

    Fortunately, I kept a copy of 6.5 around because I had read about these problems. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />

If you give your e-mail address, I'll send you the older 6.5 version of Expander. Alternatively, you could use Pacifist to extract the old version off of the Mac OS X Install CD.

What is the creation date of your Expander 7.0?

I had the same problems but I downloaded StuffIt Standard again, and it was a newer version of Expander.

i went back to 6.5.1 (I also had a copy in my archives).

Stuffit 7 is CRAP. Wont unstuff HQX and BIN and GZ files.

    Frikken peasants.

    A pleasant surprise though.

I uninstalled Stuffit 7 through the Stuffit 7 installer, then installed 6.5.1. Now when I have t make a .sit or .zip file, it doesnt ask me to register anymore!

I use Stuffit Deluxe 7.0 without any problems, love it. And if you're having problems with tar.gz-files you can always you good 'ole tar from the cli.

Edit: I forgot to mention that Stuffit Deluxe 7.0 comes with Stuffit Expander and Dropstuff for cli. Pretty cool.

There seems to be a problem with the installer, because I had the bzip2, binhex (.hqx,) etc. problem too, but then I restarted my computer and installed the apps again and the Plug-ins for those compression formats installed without problems.

I still can't decode the occasional .bin file though, which is weird.

i'm not real familiar with the .bin spec, but i heard a rumor and decided to try this trick out one time. i took the .bin off the filename and then used the file, and it worked. i think it was a .dmg, so maybe disk copy has some hard coded bin unstuffer into it, but you guys might want to try it sometime on other .bin files.

the strange thing is that there must be a 1000 posts on Versiontrackr totally destroying Stuffit (with comments) and yet, there is no feedback from Aladdin.

Versiontracker must be every developer's mecca for feedback... and yet Aladdin doesnt seem to give a crap or at least even aknowledge the problems.

And anyway... Stuffit 6.5.1 works exactly the same. I even tried stuffing some files with the SIT X format and there is no difference... if any.
