Happy Birthday David Bowie!
Space Oddity Live - 1969
The man is 60 years old today. I've grown up listening to his music for over 30 years. It's ups and downs. I found this video of Bowie performing "Space Oddity" in 1969 on a British program. This is more or less the beginning of a long and successful career.

All of his music videos were collected in this disk - it is worth picking up:

Have you seen that movie David Bowie did, I think it was called "Labyrinth" ? I laughed very much at that...
He also did other movies - the man who fell to earth, the hunger, merry christmas mr lawrence, etc:

Yeah, there's a girl I know who has that. I have a Bowie on the 10 Spot video that is great. I saw him in 1976, 1977 with Iggy Pop and in 1983. But listened to him as a teenager back in the day.

Don't forget Labyrinth...
Leave the style to people that have style.
(saw him in 1990 -- good show)
Bowie's a fairly sharp businesspersonette, every so often a management/business/econ text will feature a case study on him. IIRC, He sold shares in his future releases at one point, and has made a practice of making some very shrewd business descisions.

The first one, so it seems, was moving from pantomime to popular music. I like a lot of his albums though, so it's not right to make fun.

He was popular as Ziggy Stardust, etc, as well - my parents took me to the Ziggy Stardust movie when I was 6 or 7 and I loved it. Of course - "Let's Dance" was probably bigger money for him.
I saw him live in concert with nine inch nails in '95 or so - good show (maybe #2 that I have seen, the best concert I have seen was KISS from the 5th row center)

Speaking of 'Let's Dance", he had of all people Stevie Ray Vaughan play lead guitar on that album. IIRC, on all the songs. If you listen to the "China Girl" intro riff, you can hear him. Weird.

No, I'm saying that he tried to be a mime before doing any music. Either that, or that radio show presented false information. I like his 70's stuff the best.

The rumor was that when Bowie offered him to go on tour with him, Stevie Ray Vaughan demanded $1,000,000 up front. Bowie declined and had Earl Slick (a very good guitar player, but no SRV) replace him. The Let's Dance tour was more of an experience for me. So many friends went and we were seated very close to each other (I had a date with me so I sat away from them
I don't think Bowie will be returning to the world tour circuit anymore. His last one was a logistic and deadly (roadie killed, Bowie's heart problem and the infamous lollipop incident) disaster. I think he is entering his twilight years...

That was the best movie ever. May David have mercy on your soul on judgement day.
