COMPUTER:

eMac 1.0GHz (ATI GRAPHICS) from y2003.

17" Flat CRT

PROBLEM:

The CRT on my computer has troubles displaying light grays. For example, if you were to go to the Apple website and view the photos of the white iMac or MacBook/Pro, you will notice that you actaully cannot see most of the image. Most of those images are made up from the lightest grays on the grayscale level.

I have tried calibrating the monitor multiple times, tried brightness and contrast levels. No help there.

One thing I seem to notice is that when the eMac first boots, just before Tiger (10.4.8) desktop starts to render, the screen seems might more vivid and bright, then the monitor instantly changes and everything is darker and has the problem with viewing very light grays.

I've remoted into the system and the colors and grays are all crip and great on my LCD and my CRT from my two PCs and also on my Laptop's CRT.

I plan on wiping the OS and reloading fresh from the CD-ROM discs, but right now, I am wondering if anyone has some constructive suggestions?

Please help if you can.
