Importing DVDs Into iTunes

I would like to try to import some of my movie collection into iTunes. For my first attempt I used MacTheRipper to get the DVD contents to my hard drive but now I am not sure what software to use to encode the files into a format that's useable with iTunes. Anybody got suggestions on the best way to accomplish this?

I suggest that you investigate handbrake and ffmpegX. Good luck.
