Maxtor 'Basic' external HD question

Does anybody know if Maxtor's 'Basic' USB HDD uses one HDD mechanism or two in order to achieve the quoted capacities?

I'm going to be running a RAID-0 setup again shortly, and I want to be able to backup to an external drive, but I know that the likes of the Lacie Big Disks actually have two drive mechanisms in there that are configured using JBOD or similar ? therefore making them completely unsuitable as a backup volume.

I just wondered if the Maxtor 'Basic' was the same?

The Basics HDD it meant to be jsut that... a basic HDD. It's one drive.

Personally I've had bad experiences with Maxtor though, not exactly the epitome of reliability IMHO.

The reason I ask is that it's often cheaper to put two 250GB drive mechanisms in an external case than it is a single 500GB mech.

Just by looking at the dimensions, you can't fit 2 in there. :P

I didn't think of that! Obvious now you mention it.
