or will it have cell phone triangulation? This is a branch thread from the regular iPhone thread, because not everyone in the iPhone thread cares about this.
no one knows yet, but i think apples partnership with google will have google put the best of the best on that phone, and i beleive google maps & GPS will be included with that
If they couldn't put 3G in , they don't have a proper GPS.
However it is probably using cellphone tower triangulation which is good enough for now.
Like 3G/GSM and 3G/CDMA[1] I suspect GPS and a suite of location aware services are destined for Rev. B or so.
[1] I just don't care enough to look up the stupid abbreviations for all of the different technologies. 3G/CDMA will be needed for the Japanese market, and whichever other 3G providers use the same technology elsewhere. FOMA or WCDMA or something IIRC.
Given: The phone MUST be location-aware to comply with E911.
Question: What technology does the phone (and Cingular) use to provide that? GPS? Cell tower triangulation? AGPS?
Question: Will the location info be available to the end user? (Verizon uses GPS in their phones, but the consumer doesn't have access unless they pay $$$.)
Question: If the location info is made available, what sort of cool stuff will Apple do with it?
I would HOPE that Apple will see the value of "giving" the user access to the location info.
