New battery doesn't 'look' good. Need advice.

I had a new battery sent to me under warranty for my Macbook.

The battery works fine.

Problem: the new battery does not fit in snugly like the old one.

It has a slight edge sticking out on one half.

The battery is OK and is the correct part!

In terms of functionality: everything is OK.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

The old battery fitted like a glove.

Why I bought the Macbook in the begining: because it was georgous, it was elegant, it looked and felt amazing the the touch.

(Erm... the fact that Apple have a much more superior OS had nothing to do with my choice!)

The new battery spoils it all for me.

I'll call Apple on Monday to complain.

Just wanted to know other opinions:

1. Am I mad?

or

2. Do I have a case!?

Thanks.

I think you have a valid complaint, after all, Apple is about form as much as it is about function. I'd call them, or better yet, if you have an Apple store nearby, stop in and see what they can do for you.

One day I shall learn the skillz of call centres dealing with maniacs like you 8)

But I understand, Macs are so beautiful and enjoyable, when they are not perfect people get this niggly feeling. I bought a second-hand MacBook Core1 Duo 2GHZ | 2GB RAM. There's 1 dead pixel, and two tiny white spots on the LCD "back-pushed pixels". On 80%+ load of both cores the fan spins to a loud 6200rpm. Like almost PowerMacG4-wind-tunnel kinda loud. Thermal paste, firmware(?-latest firmware would be applied)... Or just Core1Duo revA MacBooks? In a "sick" way it feels good to have the fans fully blasting when say encoding a DVDrip to H.264 rather good quality, 1-pass whipped through in 3.5 hours to QT7-compatible mp4 file...

But I'm happy for now, after all my Macs previously, I think of this as not mine, just a research and experimentation machine. Got Vista up and running on Parallels. Got Rosetta working alright. Adobe, Illustrator CS1 in OSX, CS2 in Vista. Macromedia Studio8 in OSX, Studio8 in Vista. Runs decently in either environment. But *NOT* Rosetta AND Parallels at once.

But Intel-native apps are smooth and snappy, and sit low and cool in the background with Parallels or heavy-Rosetta active. Dashboard is teh quick, and I got ripple effectz! Even with Intel GMA950 integrated. The 3D-Rss-screensaver is fast as well.

The 802.11b reception (I got no 802.11g router at the moment) is phenomenal and whips most PC laptops to Timbuktoo and back.

You never "own" a Mac, you just use it and take care of it for the time you have it.

This all said, I think it is up to the individual to be firm (but not an ass I guess) about whatever they are unhappy about with their Mac gear (there have been distinct major hardware issues with a variety of Macs) and discuss the problems, and where needed, be very well informed and demonstrate this knowledge to Apple about the Fair Trading laws in your town/ city/ county/ state/ country. Good luck.

I would leave it if the battery works fine because that's the most important thing. I used to have an ibook whose battery didn't fit very well but honestly, you forget about it pretty quickly. It's on the bottom of the machine so you don't even see it.

When I hacked up my iBook G4 933mhz (my parents, actually) to mod in a 5400rpm 60gb drive, I ended up with a bunch of extra screws when putting it back, and I removed the "springs" part of the battery insert area. The iBook battery sits very nice and flush now, without the springs...
