hi all,

just got my pb 12" back from repair today (superdrive died) but now the keyboard layout is mixed up! it is a japanese keyboard, which is basically a US layout, but it seems my keyboard is set to british... now i AM a brit, but this isn't a british layout! i've looked in international settings and keyboard and mouse as well as the input palette, but can't find anything i need to change.

changing between languages in the input palette appears to make no difference to the keyboard layout, even if i switch between british and US layout i still have @ about my 2 and " above my colon

is there anyway to hard set the keyboard layout? \

yours hopefully!

j

System preferences > International > Input Menu > then check the keyboard layout you want to use.. Report back, if that doesnt do it theres other ways we can try.

And untick the ones you don't use... that will hard set it.

    thanks for the replies, guys!

it tried removing all the languages (except US layout) which then causes the input menu to disappear, but no effect :/ it seems the input menu isnt affecting the layout at all at the moment. please suggest what else i can try!

very strange to have this kind of problem after a hardware repair.....

i don't think the cia's fingers stretch quite this far...

any ideas for the solution? input menu seems to make no difference. surely there must be commands to hard set the keyboard layout using the terminal or something? i've googled but no luck so far \

argh!!! this problem is starting to seriously irritate me! i have played around with the input menu to no avail. i discovered that changing the layout to Danish corrected some of the punctuation marks (so the layouts ARE changing) but whenever i select either the US or japanese romaji layouts (both of which were correct before i took the machine in for HARDWARE repair ) the punctuation is still all wrong (although it would be correct for a british layout - which i don't have!!)

can anyone suggest anything? reinstalling the keyboard layouts? at the moment i'm tempted to just reinstall os x and be done with it.....

Try creating a test account, see if it happens in there. If it doesn't rename your ~/Library/Preferences folder to preferences old and restart your computer, see if that makes a difference then report back. If it does it in another user, archive + install preserving.

well this is downright bizarre.... the keyboard layout problem is solved, but i'm not quite sure how i fixed it. i repaired permissions (which seemed to really need doing!) i tried making a new user and renaming the preferences folder with no success... so i decided to reinstall os x, went to insert the dvd only to find that the drive was (again!) refusing to accept dics! this being the problem i was having before albeit slightly differently......

so i googled for this problem, which suggested reseting the pram, which i did, and then noticed that the keyboard layout was correct again but i was still stuck with the superdrive problem

needless to say i am cursing the thought of slot-loading drives at the moment and another trip to the apple store beckons

however, thanks for all the help on this thread!
