Hey guys,

A guy near where I live is selling the following computer:

MacBook

2.0 GHz Core Duo

512 MB RAM

60 GB HD

Superdrive

I'm sure you guys all know the other specs...

What would be a good price for this computer? What is the most you would pay, and at what price would it be a steal?

Thanks in advance!

Are you into the used computer business or something?

Or do you like to collect old macs?

Bottom line, I suggest going to Apple.com and check out the refurbs on sale there. Not only are they guaranteed, they still contain the warranty with an option of Apple Care.

I do not collect old Macs, I am just a student who does not have $1,500 to spend on a new Mac.

if that's the case you could get a cheap new one, probably around 900 or 1k if you say youre a student... for that, i would spend maybe 600-700 but im cheap.

That Macbook sold for about $1099, it would be worth less now that the Core 2 Duo Macbook is out, but if you're a student then you would easily qualify for a student discount, so even if you were to buy the current model it would probably be less then $1000.

If you plan on buying that one, I'd probably value it at around $500 or $600. Maybe it's worth more or worth less.

No it didn't. The specs quoted by the O/P were for the original $1299 MacBook model.

    Try more, not less.

To the O/P, if you want to know how much the machine is worth, why not just watch* a few eBay auctions for the same-spec machine?

*as in, use the watch function to enable you to see the final selling price

Really? It seems similar to the current $1099 one, specifically the 60 GB HDD.

Well I was only saying that because almost all of your posts pertain to buying an old mac. You don't need $1500 to buy a quality Mac.

If I were able to get the new model BlackBook for $1,000 that would be an excellent deal right?

If you go for the Mac Mini and already have a Keyboard Mouse and Display, you can get a Mac Mini for $599.

You know, back around the PSP launch, I saw in EGM that someone payed almost the full price of a PSP for an Empty PSP Box...

Fine, seeing as how I got the model wrong, probably around $900-$1000.

800 for that 'book is reasonable. You should try talking him down to 700 though.
