iTunes Sharing doesn't work - Ideas?

Hmm... today I am either totally blind or something's wrong...

I have a small network at home, with my iMac and iBook (both running iTunes 7.0.2) and my trusty old PowerMac G3/233 DT with YellowDog Linux acting as a router and internet gateway. So far, so good, File Sharing between the iMac and iBook is working great. Unfortunately iTunes sharing isn't working at all

I've checked that all relevant settings in both iTunes apps (Look for shared libraries, Share my Library/Share entire Library) are activated, also both of the machines' firewalls are turned off. Moreover, I've also ensured that the router isn't the cause, any IP forwarding from the iBook's interface to the iMac and back will be accepted.

Still, no shared library appears in either of the iTunes apps... any ideas, anyone?

Edit: Found the reason: It seems that iTunes Sharing isn't allowed between different subnets, even if they are in a private range (iMac was in 192.168.55.0/24 and iBook in 192.168.56.0/24)

Good catch. It's not quite so good as having iTunes built-in sharing working, but you could give accessTunes a try if you don't want to reconfigure your network -- accessTunes gives you web-browser based sharing of your iTunes library without all of iTunes restrictions. You can even get to your music away from home if you do the appropriate port-forwarding or whatnot as needed in your set-up to see the accessTunes server via a WAN IP address.
