Internet Sharing

Hi,

I have an iMac G5 which i have recently been using to share its internet connection through, System Prefs - Sharing - Internet. This has worked well but the signal does not get very far.

I have recently bought a Linksys Wireless Router (no modem) and wondered if it is possible to get the Linksys router to connect to the iMac G5 to share the internet connection as this will be able to "beam" the net connection further.

Thanks in advance

You won't need internet sharing any more now that you have a router. Internet sharing is basically a worse way to do what a router does. You plug the internet line from the modem into the router and from the router, the internet is being shared. For good all round reception, you are best to put the router in a central location. This would be roughly halfway between the furthest areas you plan to use the internet.

The router will likely have some ethernet ports on it too so you can plug a computer into it directly to get a more reliable and faster connection than wireless.

This assumes that you're not doing something crazy like trying to wirelessly share a dial-up connection.
