Hello,

Can someone tell me what settings I should be using to convert Movies and TV shows (on DVD which I own) to make them work in with the AppleTV?

Some of them are widescreen and normal fullscreen.

I've already done some, but someone told me I used the wrong settings I'm really at myself for wasting time using the wrong settings.

SETTINGS

Video

File Format: MP4 File

Codecs: MPEG-4 Video/ AAC Audio

Framerate: Same As Source

Encoder: FFmpeg

Quality: Average Bitrate: 2500

Audio

Sample Rate: 48000

Bitrate: 320

Picture Settings

Haven't changed it - just like original.

I want the picture quality to be good - when playing on my 52" Plasma (it isn't HD) But I am looking into buying an HD TV in the next few months - so I want the content to work with the new AppleTV, the "looking into" HDTV and possibly the "new true video ipod" (if and whenever it gets released).

I have the following programs installed: Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip, and MacTheRipper. I just don't know what is the best for what I want (i hear its MPEG Streamclip) but I don't know what settings to use in any of the programs.

PLEASE HELP ME PREP FOR THE APPLE TV.

I'm like you trying to figure this out but I've given up until there is one in an Apple store and the 'genius's' there have had time to play with it to answer these questions. Based on what's published I believe you need to use the H.264 codec (Main profile) I believe in ffpmegs this is the .264 encoder. But as I said I would wait until I have one and try playing back my first rip before committing the time and effort to ripping everything. I had this experience when I get the eyehome. I had pre-ripped something that SHOULD have worked and then found eyehome did play well with the specific encoder I used.
