I have been planning on buying a MBP for a while. I am just no finishing getting the funds in order to do so.

Naturally I want to get the best deal I can.

The company I work for has an accomodation plan, through that I can get the base MBP for $1839, but now that I have been digging around I can get a 17" MBP for less through here: http://www.ecomelectronics.com/p/713...PRO_Apple.html

Not to mention the free shipping and lack of sales tax.

What am I missing here? Sounds too good to be true.... is it?

    This is the "old" model from last spring and not the current Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz one. That's why it is a bit cheaper. Still a good notebook, though!

    With all due respect, where exactly in his/her post was he/she asking about the "n" networking equipment?

    Where can I find a comprehensive list of differences between the "old" MBP (the one in the link) versus the current offerings?

    I can't really spend more than $2k, so it is going to come down to the one I linked to, vs a 15" version of the current MBP....

    I currently have a 15.4" widescreen PC laptop, and would like a bigger screen, although it is not really a "must have"...

    I am not so much a power user, I do some minor 3d design stuff in sketchup, sometimes heavy multitasking (many browser windows, bit torrent running, etc). Also some work with photoshop, dreamweaver, and fireworks. I am not sure if the gain from core duo to core 2 duo would be all that noticable. The jump to 2 gigs of ram would be an issue though, but I can always add more RAM.

    And how is this so cheap??? http://www.gearxs-mall.us.com/produc...roducts_id=186

    *Edit* Nevermind, found out my own answer! http://www.resellerratings.com/store/GearXS

    See http://www.everymac.com/systems/appl...acbookpro.html for all the different MacBook Pro models.

    The old 17" had a smaller hard drive, 2.16 GHz Core Duo processor (instead of 2.33 Core 2 Duo), only 1 GB RAM standard (new: 2 GB). The rest is more or less the same.

    If you can afford it, you should go for:

    * 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    * 1440 x 900 pixels

    * 2GB memory

    * 120GB hard drive1

    * 6x double-layer SuperDrive

    * ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 256MB SDRAM

    Ships: Within 24 hours

    Free Shipping

    $2,499.00

    Seriously. Good luck 8)

    Try the Apple Refurbished Store

    17" is too big for you, in my opinion.

    As you do some designing, check if you like the MacBookPro screen, check a demo model out in person.

    Yeah, I think the current model with 2 gigs of ram is the way to go.

    I am pretty sure it will be the 15" model.

    If the 17 had a numeric keypad that may have swayed my decision, but I am not sure If i would like they keyboard offset to accomodate it.

    Now all I need is my Bonus from work Should be coming middle of march.

    Hopefully Leopard will be out by then.

    why don't you just get the black mac book with duo 2 2.0 ghz with 2 gb ram and 120 gb hard drive, same specifications as the mbp but just with a smaller screen, and in my opinion a sexier more sleek look for like 1674$ USD?

    Personally i think that the mbp is ugly with that silver circle on the side with the, i guess, speakers? on the side. But mabye the 2 inches of difference will make a difference to you.

    Well, I am currently used to a 15.4" screen, I am not sure I want to downgrade in size. I also like the idea of the backlit keyboard.

    Also the specs are not all the same, the MPB has dedicated video memory, versus the shared video memory of the black macbook. (I'm a newb and could be wrong)

    My current laptop is this:

    http://www.msicomputer.com/NB/produc...?model=MS-1029

    Configured with the following:

    Processor - AMD Turion MT30

    Ram - 1GB DDR400

    Hard Drive - 80GB 5400 RPM

    Network - Integrated Wifi 802.11b/g + Bluetooth

    I wish the Macbook and MBP had a built in memory card reader.

    The 2.33ghz model MacBooKPro is 15", 1440x900, 2GB ram (max 3gb), and ATI X1600 with 256mb videoram. A great option in my mind for $2,499, and refurb as shown above you could get it for $1,999... 8)

    Yep, I believe that is the way I am going to go.

    I am probably going to be up in chicago for the Chicago Auto Show in a couple weeks, I will probably stop by an apple store so I can check them out first hand.

    Hopefully more of that config will show up.... it is not showing there anymore

    Yeah, since you are waiting for Leopard, you can just chill, check some out in person, get a feel of what the MacBook Core2Duo and MacBookPro Core2Duo models are like.

    By WWDC June 2007 there should be updates to the MacBook and MacBook Pro, alongside solid (10.5.2 or 10.5.1) builds of Leopard available to the masses. From middle of 2007, Apple is going to taaaakee offfff..!!
