Macintosh use the same standard as PC, 802.11 a/b/g/n. a slowest and n just out, fastest, and best range.

Do you already have a modem/router now normally give free by ISP?

    If so.

You get a bridging wireless router with no modem.

    Best option www.apple.com/airportextreme/

Zero configure!!! or 1.2.3 step configure. Both Mac and PC configure.

    work both Mac and PC

Security features are important to protect agianest war driving. People driving around looking for open wireless networks.

You can setup one of you computers up to be base station, and bridge to the internet, easy on the mac but then you computer is tried into the network.

Well you'll need 1 base station and wireless cards/adapters for each user. As you mentioned, yours is all ready to go. Are your parents computers desktops or laptops? If desktops you'll need PCI or USB adapters, or just a cable if you're close enough to the base station to wire it.

If they also use laptops you'll most likely be going with USB or PCMCIA cards. Either way, if you're not doing anything hardcore, just save some $ and get wireless G. And don't bother with the "super G" stuff. you're apple can't do it which will hurt their performance.

Remember. If you're mixing modes 802.11b and 802.11g, your 'g' speeds will be negatively impacted by the 'b' computers on the network.

What computer is it? Desktop or laptop? If it is a desktop why do they want wireless? If it is a desktop though a 802.11g PCI-card will do.

Of course, you will need a wireless modem/router as the BaseStation as well, if you don't have one.

I assume then, my n speed will be compromised by my g Airport Express that is on the network-and is streaming music to my stereo-

am I correct with this assumption?

Unfortunately, yes. It won't slow you all the way down to 'g' speeds, but you will likely see a decrease in performance I don't think the difference is as dramatic as a b/g mixed mode would be though.
