I didn't try to erase any Software Update related things, so is this some kind of mistake that it's in the Trash? Is this the Software Update checker for Apple's Software Update?
The system will automatically place temporary files left behind by applications due to a variety of different reasons, so it's normal to find files like it in your trash. A pid file is a process id file and although I haven't seen one appear in the trash, I wouldn't be concerned unless every time you restart you find one. At that point it could be an indicator of some problem with Software Update.
